On the way to doing everything in the glassmaking process himself, ZIMMERMANN finally found an emphasis for his work. One of the happiest solutions of his art was created : the " mesh " or " honeycomb " vase. New variants were added to these, colour was used too, and the vessel-like character of the first examples came to disappear - the change from the term " honeycomb vase " to " honeycomb object " is revealing. The shapes developed artistic dimensions freed from all recollections of function. These objects, which are amongst the most attractive works of German glass art, and also stand up to comparison with works from other countries.
